the soul sisters' guide to a very merry christmas Jen & Pache

December 05, 2004

it's redbull time, soulsisters!

redbull.jpg yes, you read that right. it's only the fifth of december and i need my red bull. sugar-free, of course, to save those weight watchers points for the holiday bark. somehow i'm already tired. could it be those eight packages begging to be sent out so the in-laws and distant family members will feel loved and remembered this holiday season? or could it be the obsessive advent altar creating and the subsequent handmade papers and color copies of the madonna and child strewn all over the living/dining room? or perhaps it's the unmade beds, the dishes piled in the sink or that lovely temper-tantrum madeleine threw this morning before church? anyway you add it up, i'm beat.

bring on the red bull, and one late night of cleaning and straightening and package-making while the wild things sleep. okay, there goes carter with temper tantrum number two of the day to make our holiday joy complete.

blessings all. what's your christmas pick-me up to get you through? after this red bull wears off, i'll need all the help i can get.

My holiday pick-me up this year is this great website called soulsistersunite.com... oh, wait, you already knew about that one.

Today I had an eggnog ice cream milkshake. That was a nice pick-me up. :)

My husband and I have have been going to the town center almost every night , to walk around, and take in all of the christmas they have, the lights, the ice skating, the giant tree, the music. Getting out and walking, mixed witht the things of December are great pick me ups. :)

It has been vital for me to:

journal every day, 3 pages longhand. (This is the only thing that stands between me and a shooting spree generally, and it's so important to my mental health at a time like this - meaning December - that I've been setting aside time to do it every day since Thanksgiving. So far, so good.

making "what's on my mind" lists whenever I feel bugged about anything. This is a list not only of things to do/get/make, but also everything that's worrying you, ideas to explore, EVERYTHING big and small that is on your mind. Many things, once written down, fall into place with no further action on your part. (Thank God.) Also, it seems to let the air out of the things I'm worrying about, or else help me figure out what's underneath the surface worries.

I find it helpful to make lots of lists generally, so that I never have to keep anything in your head.

I also drink a great deal of coke. Really, far too much.

Jen, red bull? Don't you know about Diet Coke with Lime, or vanilla, your pick?! I don't think you can have too much of it.

I've been having a shot of Kahlua in my evening coffee while I listen to really cheesy Christmas music (I do love this stuff) on satellite radio.

Sigh..
Never announce to the world about how you're journaling every day without fail. Bad karma. Guarantees that you will never have a quiet moment to scribble another word.
