about us

hmmm...we never know quite how to answer that question. every time we try we come up with brilliant paragraphs that don't quite sound like us at all one month later. so it might be better to say this is a snapshot of us on a windy day in november.

about jen
i am a mother by day and writer and/or doula by night. my two wild children madeleine (6) and carter (3) love to climb on the furniture and make forts out of the ironing board, bungy cords and the freshly washed sheets they were strictly forbidden to take out of the linen closet. thankfully, all this joy and chaos makes for great writing material, so if you smell a yummy candle burning somewhere in the middle of the night in takoma park, maryland, it's probably me tapping away on the keyboard by candlelight. while some owe their sanity to prozac, i swear by blogging, and you can find me daily reflections (or rants, depending on the day) about life, kids, politics, faith, art and the weather at www.jenlemen.com.

about patience
awww man, I was going to write about writing in the middle of the night. we all know it might be the only time of the day when such esteemed zine authors (like ourselves) with two small children are able to complete a thought, not to mention write it down. i live in richmond, virginia where jumping on the bed with my two boys josiah (4) and jack (2) is a daily occurence. and if there are loud whoops coming out of my little green house--no worries--it’s probably just a tickle fight where my kids have vowed to be the eternal winners. i spend my days at a local church where i am a minister to infants and toddlers as i am forever sorting out my thoughts on spiritual formation. i've recently discovered the joys (and angst) of coming into my own in the last two years of my twenties. it's been part torture, part pure joy, but i'm here with a zine in my hands, ready to go.
